Cornwall attracting younger homebuyers

The property market in Cornwall appears to be enjoying something of a boom, with younger homebuyers supplementing the steady stream of retirees heading south.

Its appeal has been boosted by significantly improved transportation links as well as broadband internet access, according to a report in the Telegraph.

Indeed, 63,000 new homeowners have arrived in Cornwall since broadband was made available, as the area undergoes something of a cultural transformation.

"There's been a shift to the 30 to 49-year-olds," the county council's senior research officer, Malcolm Brown, told the newspaper.

"Figures gleaned from GP registers show that in 2004/5, 6,335 people came from London and the south-east and 2,300 of those were aged 25 to 44," he added.

The advantage of broadband internet access in the area is that people are now able to run a business from home or at an office in the locality. As increasing numbers decide that they wish to escape the rat race and live on their own terms, this factor has become hugely important.

An influx of younger buyers from the City has also benefited those selling a house in Cornwall, with stronger demand pushing property prices up.
