Homeowners making plans to move

Property News - Homeowners making plans to move

New research has found that 15 per cent of households are thinking of buying a new property or remortgaging by next winter.

This is particularly welcome news in view of the fact that only seven per cent said they would do the same thing by mid-summer when questioned back in January.

The latest Borrowing Monitor from Alliance & Leicester indicates that homeowners are generally optimistic about both house prices and borrowing conditions, which can only be a good thing for those looking to sell a property.

High levels of confidence in the property market were evident in the first four months of this year, when there was a 28.4 per cent increase in new mortgage lending in comparison to the same period in 2005.

This has also been helped by the return of first-time buyers, with the Council of Mortgage Lenders suggesting that 38 per cent of all new mortgages between January and March went to this category.

Similarly encouraging is the fact that 16 per cent of the under 30s plan to get on the housing ladder this year, with affordability remaining essentially good.
