Property News - Landlords at risk from unprofessional letting agents

Letting agents who take on a massive amount of houses to let and then provide a low standard of service are putting landlords at risk.

Often landlords need to keep up with mortgage repayments on a property and then find that the particulars for their house are in the middle of a large pile of papers waiting to be addressed.

New research from Leaseguard shows that sub-standard letting agents find it hard to locate tenants for properties and that landlords should consider other options.

Marie Scott, managing director of Leaseguard, stated: "Too many landlords get caught out by thinking they can just appoint a letting agent, hand over the keys, then sit back and wait for the money to roll in.

"Others put a postcard in a newsagent's window, and then accept the first tenant who agrees to pay the rent they are quoting."

Many property owners are now looking at different ways to let their house such as advertising privately.
