A survey has revealed that Brits spend just over a quarter of an hour deciding on whether they have found their dream home.

A survey has revealed that Brits spend just over a quarter of an hour deciding on whether they have found their dream home.

The figures from ING Direct reveal that many potential buyers feel they know whether a property is right for them within 17 minutes - despite the fact that many take nearly an hour to pick out the pattern of their curtains.

It is claimed that the reason behind such speedy decision making is to do with the hugely competitive housing market, where properties can be snapped up within hours of going on sale.

Many house-hunters fear that unless they put in an offer immediately, the house will be lost to someone else - although ING's survey shows one in four regret moving so quickly after securing their home.

"The pace of today's housing market puts a huge amount of stress on buyers," warned ING Direct's chief executive Lindsay Sinclair, adding: "This can lead to snap decisions being made."
