Property News - Landlord educational tool is launched

A new source of information for UK landlords has been established by the National Landlords Association (NLA).

A new source of information for UK landlords has been established by the National Landlords Association (NLA).

The online tool will contain up to date financial and tax information for buy-to-let investors, ensuring that landlords are completely in the know about the rules surrounding what they do.

In addition, the online source can be used as a structured learning tool, with modules set out to help landlords develop professionally.

Some of the areas covered include record keeping, capital gains tax, income tax and mortgages, with the NLA confident that the tool will help to raise standards.

"Financial advice for consumers has been hitting the headlines lately, but just as important is accurate information for the 800,000 landlords for whom taxation can be a complicated matter," said Alison Perkins, NLA landlord development manager.

"The programme will help keep landlords up-to-date with the many changes that occur in Budget 2008 and help raise standards in the sector, improving the tenant experience," she continued.

Rental yields and demand for rented accommodation all increased in the final quarter of 2007, according to the latest Lettings Survey from the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors.
