The average house price in England and Wales increased by 0.9 per cent in January.


The average house price in England and Wales increased by 0.9 per cent in January.

That is according to the latest figures from the Land Registry, which revealed that a typical property was worth £186,045 in the month.

Annual price inflation was recorded as 6.4 per cent, with London recording the largest annual increase of all the regions included in the study.

The capital saw year-on-year growth of 13.1 per cent, while the south-east was the next most successful region, with an annual increase of 7.8 per cent.

The north-west saw the largest monthly increase, with prices increasing by two per cent.

While the East Midlands and London followed as prices increased by 1.5 per cent in both regions.

According to the Land Registry, flats and maisonettes saw the largest annual inflation of all property types, with typical prices rising by 7.6 per cent.

These were followed by terraced houses (6.8 per cent), semi-detached (5.8 per cent) and detached properties (4.4 per cent).
