New buyers prefer terraced homes

A new report on terraced properties shows that the house type is the most popular among first-time buyers.

Nationwide has published the third part of its report on the state of the UK housing market.

It shows that 38 per cent of new buyers choose to buy terraced properties.

In addition, terraced homes are the second most popular property type among all buyers, accounting for 27 per cent of sales and 28 per cent of the entire housing stock in the country.

The properties are most popular in Yorkshire & Humberside, where they account for 31 per cent of sales, but are least popular in Scotland (15 per cent of sales).

According to Nationwide, the average terraced house is worth £149,668, that's after a rise of 51 per cent in the last five years and a 2.2 per cent increase in the last 12 months.
