Property News - Gardens are key to maximising values

Homeowners looking for ways to increase the value of their home should make improvements to their gardens.

Homeowners looking for ways to increase the value of their home should make improvements to their gardens.

That is the advice from Gleeson Homes, who have provided would-be sellers with a top ten list of tips to boost the potential of their property.

Gleeson has suggested that a garden in good shape could attract potential buyers and could even speed up the selling process.

Julie Rayner, sales director, Gleeson Homes, explained: "The garden is a huge selling point of a house, and should be treated with regard when a seller wants to attract the attention of a buyer.

"Remember the garden will usually be the first thing a potential buyer notices and can be decisive as to whether your house will sell or not."
Particular attention should be paid to lawns as, according to Gleeson, knowing how to keep a lawn looking lush, especially in summer, is "essential".

Other tips include planting fruit trees, creating a focal point such as a sculpture and using different colour foliage to add variety.
A recent survey by Halifax found that 35 per cent of people believed having a nice garden was the most likely factor to increase the value of their home.
