Fire guidelines help landlords
Posted: 23 Jul 2008 13:07:08 GMTLandlords have been given guidelines to help prevent deaths resulting from residential property fires, and the move has been supported by a representative body.
The National Landlords Association (NLA), has said that the new information provides landlords with all they need to be compliant with the law.
David Salusbury, chairman of the NLA, said: "The launch of the new national fire safety guidance is testament to what can be achieved by dialogue and cooperation. We welcome the production of the LACORS guidance that landlords should regard as sensible and overdue."
Mr Salusbury made reference to what landlords had previously seen as "unnecessary and expensive fire safety measures", which could be unsightly and suggested that the new guidelines improve the situation.
More good news for landlords came from a report commissioned by the Association of Residential Letting Agents (Arla) which suggested that those who are able to stay in the market should do so.
According to the Modern UK Housing Market - Origins and Prospects, by Professor Michael Ball of Reading University, the private rented sector is now a £500 billion asset class and there are currently more than one million landlords.
